How about pretentious?
UUUUHHHHH!! I'm sorry but some people just haven't the faintest clue of what it's like to be poor!!
They've obviously NEVER struggled..I mean REALLY struggled!!
These people think that just because someone doesn't have a college degree
that they aren't hard working or self contingent.
I grew up in hard times. My father was an extremely HARD-WORKING man, who at times worked 2 jobs to support our family!!
Unfortunately, his father died when he was in 8th grade. At the time he was the only one living at home. He was the youngest and the his older 3 siblings were supporting families of there own. So it was left upon my father to take care of his elderly mother, which he did. He had to quit school to get a full time job.
What I am trying to say is that sometimes the money just isn't there to go to college. Sure there are student loans, etc. But in the end they NEED to be paid. And when you are struggling to keep a roof over your head and food on the table, etc. it doesn't leave money left over to pursue a college degree.
I am not saying that certain decisions aren't bad ones which may leave someone in a bad way, but that doesn't mean because they didn't go to college that they don't deserve help!!
They may be in another field --you know a laborer--and work hard at that particular thing, but still not be making it! Does this mean they are scum? I don't think so!!
As far as bailing people out of bad mortgages and even bankruptcy, yea there are many people who do acquire loans knowing full and well that they won't be able to keep up with them.
BUT, there are people who have lost there jobs or ran into hard times.
Most of these people did not expect gas prices to rise to the level that they are at!! Not to mention food prices and well just about EVERYTHING else!!It just irks me to see these snobby people who've never been in a bad way to discern others the way they do!!
Yes, some people DO make excuses BUT there are some people who honestly just NEED help.
^JUST ^j^ BELIEVE^

P.S. This is why I AM NOT a REPUBLICAN!! Because, honestly, most--not all, but most--are Pharisaical Snobs!!

You know Ree, You don't need to use such harsh words against me:) I mean I only vote Republican sometimes:)
Seriously though, seems you had a run-in with one mean "Republican"!
I am a Democrat but I would never say such things about Republicans. We may not agree with them but name calling does not solve any problems. I will pray that your bitter heart is healed.
Sincerely,
Alex Kerr
You obviously have not been personally put down by
a 'Republican'!!
I'm sorry but people who look down on those less educated or those who have struggled--when they clearly have NEVER struggled and have NO IDEA what it is like-- ARE SNOBS!!
No name calling just a fact!!
Look up the definition:
American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source - Share This snob (snŏb) Pronunciation Key
n.
One who tends to patronize, rebuff, or ignore people regarded as social inferiors and imitate, admire, or seek association with people regarded as social superiors.
One who affects an offensive air of self-satisfied superiority in matters of taste or intellect.
I pray for people like them!!
You are personally putting down Republicans though--therefore they could also say that you are a Snob--a snob for not allowing others to have a difference of opinion. There are also Republicans who have struggled in life. That is the point I was trying to make.
Regards,
Alex Kerr
That is why I DID state that most-not all- are. I say this from personal experience of some that I have met!
They are all welcome to their opinions as I am to mine.
And these are mine!
I obviously accept and welcome opinions or I would have not posted your comments even though they are in opposition to mine.
Alex,
I think Ree is directing her post towards one particular, Republican" I do not call myself a Republican, but have friends who do and would be offended if I was not aware of the reason for the post. Just wanted to explain it a bit more...sometimes we just need to vent a bit when someone treats us poorly :)
Thank you Bec!!
It seems as though you treat people poorly too Mrs. Ree. I am glad to know this.
Alex
marie--my husband was offended by your post and left the "alex" comments and didn't realize that i was signed in--sorry about that, but you hurt his feelings by saying such mean things about republicans (me) and he (democrat) was trying to tell you that without signing his name. he's a nerd. i'm sorry about that.

It is ALL fine!
It just shows how much he cares for you! You are very blessed!
I hold no ill-will towards Republicans or anyone for that matter.
I just don't like to be made to feel like I am unworthy because I didn't go to college.
You CAN be a hard working person regardless of how much schooling you've had!
I apologize if I seem harsh or if I offended anyone. I may not choose the proper words or by the way I state my case but it is how I feel and my opinion, is all!
It is human nature to strike back when you are hurt.
I just tend to get carried away in the emotion.
Even if you do go to college, it's not a guarantee that you won't have struggles with money. I only have an associates degree because I didn't have the money to finish my bachelors. I am very close to finishing but with no money, it's hard to do student teaching when you have bills to pay. Everyone keeps telling me to finish my degree and I keep asking them if they are going to pay my bills for me.
We both have decent jobs and still find that we have problems keeping money when unexpected bills keep coming, or the ones we have keep going up.
I can definitely understand your being upset by someone you feel was a snob to you. I know many and even worked with one.
Hope none of us have to struggle for too much longer.
